Principal's Corner

Dear Edgewood Elementary Families,

I am delighted to be a part of the Edgewood family and serve as your new principal. Our school has dedicated, talented and extraordinary staff members committed to doing what is in the best interest of our students. We will continue to put students first at EES and work diligently to ensure their success.

My professional background is rooted in education. For the past twenty-seven years, I have worked in public education as a teacher, leader, afterschool and summer program coordinator, instructional coach and trainer for NCDPI. This is my twenty-fifth year in Whiteville City Schools and my twenty-eighth year as an educator, and I look forward to using these collective experiences as your new principal.

During the spring and summer of 2023, I worked closely with Dr. Rachel Smith, Mrs. Tonya Pait and district personnel to ensure a smooth transition. During that time, I learned about our school building, current practices and procedures as well as the unique strengths and needs of our students and staff. I am committed to embracing the positive traditions and practices that are already in place at Edgewood Elementary School while working diligently to ensure increased success for the future. I am excited to reunite with the students that previously transitioned from Whiteville Primary School and the incoming third graders that I transitioned with this school year.

"Do the Right Thing," is an expectation that I apply to myself as well as the students and the adults that support students in the classroom, on our campus and in students' homes. I believe all children should receive an exemplary education in an environment that is safe and conducive to learning. Students should receive all the support that can be provided by the adults in their life to ensure that they reach their maximum potential as a student and as a young person.

Together we can help our children excel and provide them with an education that is second to none. As a product of Whiteville City Schools Class of 1992, I am honored and humbled to serve as the new principal for Edgewood Elementary School and look forward to working with our children, teachers, parents, families and community members. My door is always open to you, and I sincerely welcome your input and support. I am excited about all we will accomplish together for our children and look forward to celebrating our collective success this school year.

Kind regards,

Pam Sutton
